Politička funkcija medija ima multidimenzionalan karakter.Javnom mnijenju, a posebno mladim ljudima, ova funkcija medija služi da kvalitetno i odgovorno učestvuju prilikom kreiranja i sprovođenja političkih odluka. Ako je ova funkcija medija zapostavljena ili deformirana, onda politički kontekst, odnosno političke odluke postaju problematične, ne demokratske i pogrešne.
