Mediji su dobili posebno mjesto u modernom društvu. Njihova prisutnost utjecala je na kreiranje popularne kulture bez koje se ne može zamisliti današnje društvo. Unutar popularne kulture i medijske funkcije smješteni su elementi na temelju kojih možemo istražiti i identificirati društvene trendove i društvene centre moći. Zato su mediji bitan predmet istraživanja u okviru kulturalnih studija.
