Razvoj digitalne tehnologije, u okviru video sfere, uvjetovao je brojne promjene u svim
oblastima ljudske djelatnosti. Te promjene su toliko kompleksne i intenzivne da se već sada može ovo doba nazvati digitalno doba. Digitalno doba karakteriziraju nove paradigme, posebno u oblasti masovne komunikacije, te novi oblici povezivanja ljudi i stvari. Ipak, i u ovom dobu dominiraju elementi kulture profita i komercijalizacije.
