Roman Tražim objašnjenje se bavi konstruiranjem identiteta, temom koja je većdesetljećima piscima interesantna. Ovaj roman je interesantniji jer tematizira radikalnu promjenu identiteta, u formi konvertitkinje Marije koja postaje Mejrem. Sam taj process po sebi ne bi bio problematičan da se ne nailazi na otpor sredine u kojoj Marija živi.Pri tome razlika postaje raskol, a subject konvertit mora rješavati novonastale identitetarne probleme na mnogo polja.
